Waqar Younis Says Pakistan Will Begin World Cup as “Underdogs”

“I think Pakistan arrive as underdogs and they need to win initial games to set up tone. If they lose the initial games of the tournament, then it will be an uphill task for them later on,” Waqar Younis told to ICC.

“The whole country supports team Pakistan and believe Pakistan team can win the World Cup 2019. Our team only need to start the tournament on high and then carry on the momentum” he added.

Waqar Younis believes that Pakistan batting line-up is in good form especially the top order. He thinks with the arrival of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riyaz Pakistan’s bowling line-up has also strengthened.

“The positive for Pakistan is that they have started scoring big totals. They have shown they are capable of scoring 300 plus and we saw that in their series against England.

“The batsman have got used to the surfaces very quickly and have piled on the runs. They are all in good form, especially Babar Azam and Haris Sohail,” he said.

Pakistan won their only ODI World Cup, 27 years ago in 1992, under the leadership of Imran Khan. Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against West Indies on May 31.
